Madrava is a school platform provided by predev. Solutions, Cairo. This page explains what data the Madrava app and website collect, why, who sees it and when it is deleted. We follow Egypt's Personal Data Protection Law No. 151 of 2020 and collect only what a school needs to run.
Who controls the data
The school is responsible for its students', parents' and staff's data; Madrava processes it on the school's behalf. Accounts are created by the school; there is no sign-up.
What we collect
- Account data: name, email address, phone number, role in the school.
- Student data: names in Arabic and English, student number, grade and class, a photo if the school adds one, guardians.
- School records: attendance, absences and excuses, homework and what students hand in (text, files, photos), grades, report cards and their comments, announcements, and messages between parents and teachers with their attachments.
- School transport: the student's bus route, stop and term subscription (the amount is recorded with no card details), boarding and drop-off times, and the bus supervisor's phone location during a trip only.
- Device data: the notification token used to send alerts to the phone, and the app language.
We do not collect contacts, and we never collect location from parents', students' or teachers' phones; the only location we collect is the bus supervisor's phone during a trip. We use no advertising or tracking tools.
Why we use it
Only to run the school: taking attendance, telling parents about absences, homework, grades and report cards, and notifications by email, push or WhatsApp when the school turns it on. We do not sell data or use it for marketing.
Who sees it
Inside a school, each person sees only what concerns them: parents see their children, teachers their classes, school leaders their school. The bus location is seen by the parents of the children on board, during the trip only, each parent seeing only their own child's bus, and by the school's transport managers. We never collect the location of parents', students' or teachers' phones. Messages between a parent and a teacher are seen by the two of them; the school's owner and principal may read them to keep students safe, and every such reading is logged. No school can reach another school's data. The predev. Solutions team sees data only to give support. We use providers to run the service: server hosting, Google Firebase for phone notifications, our email provider, and Meta's WhatsApp when the school turns it on.
Security
Data travels encrypted over HTTPS; files are private and open through short-lived links. Backups are taken daily.
Retention and deletion
We keep data while the school uses Madrava. A parent, student or staff member can ask to see, correct or delete their data through the school, or by writing to us. When a school's contract ends we delete its data within 90 days, except what the law requires us to keep. Bus locations are deleted after 30 days; boarding and drop-off times stay with the school's records.
Children
Students use Madrava with accounts their school creates and approves. We collect from students only what the school needs.
